Our World is Doomed

The end of Brave New World made me extremely upset. I did not like how John was literally turned into a savage. In Chapter Eighteen, John says, “I ate civilization…it poisoned me; I was defiled.” He was trying to hold on to his humanity by leaving London and its people, but instead he digressed. He whipped himself and refused to eat the food that had been given to him. In his own mind, he was trying to cleanse himself. He was trying to get farther away from society and closer to himself and God. He isolated himself as best as he could, but still news reporters, television anchors, and helicopters swarmed his lighthouse "like locusts". People came and watched him like he was an animal at a sporting event. He became wild, and with good reason. How can anyone, brainwashed or not, think that the misfortunes of others amusing? If what Huxley writes about does come true, our world is doomed.
