As I was reading The Shallows by Nicholas Carr I remembered pondering about Google! If Google was a person, I would have no idea how I could repay him. I remember asking a friend of mine a confusing question, and he didn't know the answer either so he told me to Google it. All I had to do was pop up a single question and I would receive pages after pages of elaborated answers and thousands of links. Nicholas Carr quotes Google as a "mission" which is "to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful." (pg.152) Google uses advertisements for income, every click and they receive money. Google isn't just in industry itself but is its own connection. People all around the world refer to Google for answers and humans themselves already have the answers.Though, books and Google were both created by humans. Would you rather hit the books for a simple answer or easily Google a question? Obviously you would use Google. The main point is you want an answer, and Google trains itself for your expectations.
Carr also refers Google a "distraction" but how can something be so useful used as a distraction? Would you consider homework as a distraction? I agree with Carr. The thing is, everything in the world is a distraction, whatever way you organize it. In the end, our minds focus is for the answers. People say the world revolves around money, so is money the answer?
