Why are we all complaining when we have it so easy? We have the world
at our fingertips, yet we are scared to use its full potential. Look at all the information
the Internet holds for us. The future is just
past this door of research, which can be opened with a key right before our eyes, the Internet. Before, we had to knock down this door with an ax, but now we
have a key to make it easier to open... Yet some of us hesitate. “If I use this key to open the door, I might lose
all my arm muscles." How ridiculous does that sound? Third world countries
do not have the knowledge we do, especially when so many of them lack access to the Internet. Citizens living in Palestine or Bangladesh barely get a proper education, unlike us who already know that we will be going to college.
My point is,
look at how much potential we have right now because of the worldwide web. There is a sea of research
and knowledge out there, and we have yet to discover more. Even now among us, this AP English blogging assignment involves the Internet. All that we need is more self-discipline and control. If one can fast without food or water, basic human necessities, for long periods of time, then the same can be done with the Internet.
Initially, I agreed with Carr in The Shallows about the Internet's corruption, but several days after finishing the novel, I questioned my own perspective. The Internet has done more favors to the world rather than destruction. In the past, printing presses and books, other mediums mentioned by Carr, were looked down upon and thought of as corrupting by many, yet now the world exalts them. Do you not think several centuries, if not decades, later the world will exalt the Internet the same way as another medium?
I completely agree! I'm so glad you made that connection in history about looking down upon printing. I think people will eventually become comfortable with the internet. It may take time, however, because it is a new things, and changes are scary for everyone. People will learn to appreciate the internet and the opportunities it offers us as young and ambitious generations. The internet is great. I do believe however, that those of us who do not find a balance and gain self-control will have a hard time using the internet to its full potential.
