While reading through the three books in the past summer, I started paying more attention to my surroundings. What I have seen greatly disturbed me because not only do we spend our time looking at a computer screen, it is what we are watching that I think is complete ludicrous. Isn’t having a computer considered grateful because we have the advantage of gaining more knowledge than other countries? I find it very depressing when a video of someone getting hurt receives more views and attention than a video that would contribute on expanding our knowledge.
It just seems rather than using our time constructively, we would spend our time looking at a screen doing nothing other than being entertained. Is this how technology changed us? Seeking enjoyment and happiness from a device that could easily break at any given moment? Will technology become our dependency of continuing on living in this world? Seems like it to me.
I understand very well that it’s okay to relax and watch entertainment sites in the internet, but we should not let it control our lives and make us void of what is going on in the outside world. Why is it so hard for us to just pause a video or reading some ridiculous post about some celebrity scandal that may or may not be true? Why can’t we just know when to quit from being distracted by various entertainment sites and start looking up more important information that would benefit for us in the future?
The reason why it's so difficult nowadays for people to just pause a video and take a break from technology is because people are more fascinated by entertainment. What is more pleasing? Looking into important scholarship and college information or going on Facebook and talking with your friends? Everyone is capable of putting aside technology and irrelevant information (at least temporarily); however, technology is so entertaining and addicting that no one wants to. Our society has just developed into one focused on entertainment and convenience; therefore, the Internet and other forms of modern technology are our greatest tools and friends.
ReplyDeleteI believe the reason a video containing violence receives much more views then one that gives knowledge and more room for our brain to grow is the way society is morphing. In Brave New World, many readers saw the cloning of people to be a monstrosity when this is a fine example of something very similar. People are starting to become the same person with the same personalities and no individuality. By this I mean everyone follows a crowd instead of trying something new. Even with the ability to create brand new things, that creativity is stopped due to no originality. Why try to invent a product that will help society when everyone else is doing nothing. Technology has changed the way things are yet not enough to make a perfect world.
