Fletcher Comments on the Final Day

Hey Kids:  As was noted in the post "Aw man I procrastinated again",  the blog has been on fire here in its closing days.  If you think the posts are piling up — well, comments are exploding, with pages of new comments being posted every day.  By waiting until the very last minute, you are making me work far too hard, and I don't like it.  It's one thing if you have one or two posts to finish up, and quite another when you post everything in one or two days.

That practice subverts the collaborative spirit that we seek to create on the blog, and reduces the assignment to just another hoop to jump through, without real thought or reflection.  It should come as no surprise then that many of the things that are being said here in the last days are simply inane.

I understand better than anyone how deadlines can sneak up on you.  I tend to work pretty close to the edge myself.  It's NOT that I'm lazy -- I don't even feel like I can call myself a procrastinator.  It's just that I'm busy, and if I don't HAVE to worry about this project or that assignment until later, I'm not going to because there are things that must be done today.

So, I don't want to judge you too harshly for waiting until the last minute.  But I have to say that the half-hearted, simple-minded, non-reflective thinking and writing that I am seeing recently is not what I expect from you.  You can do better than this, I hope.

I am going to Mayfair this afternoon to create my summer homework turn-in box, and put it in the front office. (What this entails: I write my name on a box.)  I also have to talk to Mr. Kailiponi, and study the master schedule.  If you need to see me face to face, you could get lucky between 3:00 and 4:00.
