Information Vs. Entertainment
After reading Part 2 of Amusing Ourselves to Death by Neil Postman I realized that some of the main issues were information against entertainment. For example the religion television shows. They started off with good intentions but now I think that it's more about entertaining the audience rather than speaking about God. I'm not saying that they lost faith in the religion, such as Christianity, but I feel like there isn't a good balance of information and entertainment. Like Postman said, they were starting to have theme songs and celebrities and decorated sets. My personal opinion is that I believe all of that is unnecessary. I think that if they wanted to televise church so people at home could watch they should televise a real church in the local area instead of having one on a set. I think church should not be televised because it loses it's purpose. Keep church at church, don't you agree ?

Truthfully, I believe church on television is actually quite convenient. I don't watch it because I already go to church every Sunday, but I think it is a good idea. Even though it is televised, they are still spreading the word, am I right? They may add all those special effects and whatnot, but it keeps the audience watching. I do agree that it is not necessary to add those decorations, but if it keeps the audience interested and it actually teaches them the word, then there is no problem.
ReplyDeleteWhat if you are unable to make it to church and you desperately need to listen to a pastor? The television is not only interesting, but it is also very convenient. All you have to do is imagine yourself in a church pew and watch the screen as you are being taught the word of the Lord. Church on television really isn't bad at all.
