Shiny Toys

iPhone 5. $800. Ridiculous, unnecessary, and greed are just a few words that come to mind. Why spend about a thousand dollars on a phone, I don't understand. Our society is full of people luring for the new, flashy objects. Nobody needs this phone, but millions want it. It isn't just phones, televisions, computers, cars. Just because what you have is no longer new, doesn't mean you need to go out and buy the freshest product on the market. Are these acts going to start carrying into personal issues, are relationships going to suffer also? Just because you and your spouse have been married for 30 years, are you going to exchange her for something new? Too many people in our generation are focused too much on having what's "cool" or "in". Everyone wants what's knew, why not be different, and keep what you already have. Will it get to the point where our society becomes so involved in the chase for new products that we begin to obtain the same merchandise? I believe it's more important to be yourself as an individual, and stray from following the crowd around you.

  1. I agree with you that everyone wants the 'in' thing. The iPhone 5 is ridiculously expensive, but people will still buy it. i hear people say "Be different" or "Why be the same, when you can stand out?", but those same people will go buy the latest fad. When Toms first hit the market, everyone had a pair. Almost three out of five people were wearing them. In a way, it is hypocrisy because they are saying one thing, but doing another. No one wants to be out of the loop.

  2. I also agree that everyone goes for whatever is new. Going for the new thing always tends to leave people behind as well. What happens to all the people who cannot afford what's new? Are they forced to try to get what's new just to fit in with the "it" crowd. Just like Rachel said no one wants to be out of the loop so they with do about everything just to fit in. This issue could cause many problems so i totally agree with Ricky and I believe that everyone should try to be more an individual instead of a follower.

  3. I want to add on what Desiree was saying. If you go for whats new and you cant afford then what do many people resort to?Stealing. This is all just a chain reaction for people just too fit in with whats new. Why not be original, be yourself instead of being somebody else.
