I would rather SLEEP.

When I first checked out The Shallows by Nicholas Carr, my first thought was, "Dang, I have to read another book this summer! I would rather be sleeping, eating, talking to girls, texting, or anything even a tiny bit less boring. Oh well, hopefully its worth it! Here I go." After reading this book, I noticed Carr's elaboration on the topic of how technology is affecting our attention span was absolutely true. I couldn't agree less! Technology is advancing so quickly and our generation is becoming even more connected but what a distraction! Even as i was reading the book, I noticed every ten through fifteen minutes I was switching from the internet, to my cell phone or looking for a bite to eat.

Our generation is so far beyond distracted, instead of searching for an answer and an elaboration we want the easy way out. We procrastinate on the easiest homework assignments and do so many other things that is not even close as important. Can you last a year without technology? or Can you at least not procrastinate?

  1. I think this problem of procrastination has affected us all. I logged on today to write my final posts and I noticed a huge increase in the quantity or posts being written to finish this summer blogging assignment.
Frankly, I was relieved that I wasn't the only one, but I still found it funny how procrastination has affected us all so. No matter how I told myself I'd work on this earlier so I wouldn't feel the need to rush (mind you, I did start earlier, but just took forever to continue) I still ended up needing to make my final posts on the final day.
I think with all the distractions of today, from the internet to a simple thing as sleep, procrastination is almost inevitable. I really would rather sleep.

  2. I think technology has affected everyone because nobody can concentrate on anything anymore unless its amusing or has to do with technology. When I try reading something I got so distracted that I forget what i'm reading; i'm always checking my phone for texts or I go on facebook. Technology has shortened my attention span for sure.

  3. Procrastination is a pretty bad epidemic. It takes me way more time to get things done. All of the constant Facebook posts, Twitter updates, and texts must be getting to us. I noticed the large amounts of posts this month. Many teens are getting lazier due to all of this easily accessible information. While I probably could not survive a year without technology, I could learn to budget my time better.
