Life Without

Has anyone ever had that moment in life where you would ask yourself the question, “How smart would I be if I never knew about television or had a computer”? This is a recurring question in my mind because with the parents I have, and like most, they tell me the potential I can have if I only put in half of the effort into my studies instead of the games and internet that I try harder in instead. Although before I always denied that fact, it has come to me as a daily message to do something a little more productive. While the internet does provide much use and it has changed the world, many don’t see the huge downsides. Even though I have acquired much more information than I ever could before without the internet, my attention span has become shorter, procrastination has become worse, and all around I’m just careless.

I guess the main point that I’m trying to say is do you believe that you would become smarter without the knowledge of ever knowing about the technologies now? Do you believe that although there are many positives to electronics, would we be better off without it? Was the world better before when technology was seen as a dream instead of now where those dreams have become real? In my opinion while the generation now has the benefit of those dreams, they have become lazier and not much imagination goes into each thought. That’s what separates each generation from now because even with the devices to change the world, we don’t use what we have to its full potential. I want to be in a society dreaming for the future of the next generation, not one only caring about itself.

  1. I think society as a whole has become lazier, but also smarter. The technology we have may shorten our attention span, but it doesn't stop our imagination. People are inventing new things everyday and using their imagination to do it. As for a society not caring about the next generation, I think we do. We are trying to find cleaner energy sources, a way to boost our economy and get out of debt, and get an education. We do all of this for ourselves and the next generation. We are not just taking everything for ourselves and leaving nothing for the next. We are investing for the future generation.

  2. I think it’s just how you control yourself from how you use the technology that we have today. Even though it seems unlikely for someone to refrain themselves from being absorbed by the mainstream media that technology brings us today. The technology that we have is considered our tools to progress in the future, but they can also be our weakness and stop us from expanding our ideas that might be considered beneficial when the time comes. I wouldn’t say we would be better off without it, but it helps us have a better long distance connection with others that we still want to stay attached to. It also releases the wall that kept us from seeing and talking to one another. But like you said, due to how progressed technology is, everyone has become more lazy. They are already starting to lose their ambition on advancing technology and inventions that could help those that require these objects.
