Can We Really Escape Technology?

Think about it. At this moment, we are all complaining about how technology is ruining our brain and how everything would be better off without it. But what are we doing right now? We are blogging on the internet or researching something necessary for homework.
Sometimes, as much as we would like to escape technology, we just can't.
We need the computer for homework and research. Can you imagine trying to do a research project without the internet? Or writing a three-page report by hand? Or actually drawing pictures yourself instead of using Google Images? Right now, using technology is a necessary thing to survive academically.
What about cell phones? Yes, I use mine for texting and talking with friends, but the main reason I have it is in case of emergencies. When I go out with my friends, I usually have to check in with my mom via text or call so that she knows I'm safe. If I didn't have my cell, my mom would probably panic and worry about my sisters and I constantly.
Even though we complain about how these things are destroying our brain, we need them. I honsetly can't imagine life without these amenities. So is there actually any way for us to escape technology such as the computer and cell phone?

  1. Television, cell phones, and computers are not solely for entertainment. I agree with you, Taylor, because technology is a blessing. Daily activities are revolved around some sort of electronic device. Yes, the simplicity of technology is distracting and requires less thought, but I don't understand how it matters. Everyone is guilty of constantly checking a cell phone for the time or a missed call or text. The aspect of entertainment from technology has just evolved. Back in the day, people also did get distracted from other activities while working or studying. Sports, for example, could have been a factor. Some people only want to play sports or play an instrument. Today, people have the opportunity to own a handheld device. I believe technology is a blessing. It affects everyone's lives positively more than anything.

  2. Technology is too advanced and commonly used these days to be escapable. It has positive and negative connotation behind it, just like anything else. It is very convenient and helpful, but also very possessive and addicting. It would take quite an amount of will power for a young person at this day and age to quit technology such as computers, cell phones, IPods, television, tablets, and so forth. But if tried, one could possibly succeed. Like anything in life, when used in moderation, it can be handy and useful. Technology is one of those things that is accepted and tolerated by some and adored and amazing to others. The original idea of technology was to be helpful with everyday events like microwaves, refrigerators, air conditioners, radiators, and automobiles. The next step was convenience for knowledge such as computers, the Internet, fax machines, advanced scientific calculators, pagers, and cellular phones. Now it is focused on speedy entertainment like smart phones, tablets, laptops, social media sites, IPods, and Wi-Fi. Overall, technology is both good and bad depending on what it is being used for.

  3. I think anyone could easily escape technology but no one wants that. Technology is a privilege and it makes life so much easier. The only time it’s bad is when it is used too much. Too much of anything is never a good thing. Someone could use all their time on the computer to learn something or they could just surf the web blindly. Most people say that television is destroying our brain but it did not force us to sit down and watch. It is the person’s fault because they wanted to be entertained. The people watching television or surfing the web are honestly not looking for knowledge. Those are the people that need to escape from technology because it is an excuse to have no ambitions. I wouldn’t be able to last without technology because I have become dependent on it. Moreover, I don’t think it has damaged my brain and I wouldn’t want to escape it.

  4. It is pretty much impossible to escape technology these days, because it is dramatically embedded in our daily lives that we can’t avoid it. A good example of that could be our cell phones, that nobody can go a whole day without using either it is for texting or calling somebody. Another good example is television, every single person watches television at least once a day. Technology has taken over our lives and that is because we simply can’t survive without it anymore, most forms of entertainment today are in the form of technology, whenever we need any information we usually use technology (internet) to get it, we can’t go a day without using it. A final example of technology that we can’t live without is transportation either it is a plane or a car. Therefore I personally don’t think that we cannot escape technology even if it was for one day.
