Let's observe the politics, shall we?

With Postman's observation of 'What we love will be our end,' he applies the thought mostly to technology. Since everyone is so focused (for once, hehe) on the technology, has anyone taken a moment to think what this means politically? It's not conspiracy theorist talk: I'm not saying the government is against us. I'm saying that in these modern times in the USA, the people are ignorantly asking for what they want instead of what they need. We don't need another law to tell a fast food chain to stop making unhealthy things because some people don't say, "No!" to their kids for anything. We don't need a law telling doctors to give drunkards and druggies free health care because they spend thousands of dollars on getting wasted each year instead of the doctor's bills. It reminds me of the theme song to a show called "All in the Family". The theme song is titled "Those Were the Days" and has quite a few good smacks to the face in it. "Didn't need no wellfare [?] Everybody pulled his weight." I couldn't tell the word in brackets, but the point is the same. We love laziness, so why not have the government take care of everything while we sit back and watch MTV or whatever? It doesn't work that way.

I'd like to know what you have observed, and what you want to happen. What would you vote for in these times?

A rather Biblical quote "He who does not work shall not eat." Yes, I understand disabilities exist, but you *can* help them.

  1. I agree with you Emma. Comparing today's societies to those of earlier generations and we are a dismal mess. Back when our grandparents were kids everything was "better" in a lose sense of the word. People had everything they needed, with nobody wanting to much. In today's society its all about want, want, want. Yet, if people could simply stop wanting everything new and shiny and perfect, then we could get those who cannot provide for themselves what they need. And yes, there are people who are slackers, taking the easy way out when they are perfectly capable of providing for themselves, but there are people who aren't able.If people would open there eyes and be willing to share then we might be able to provide for everyone.

  2. That is very rue. My mom likes to talk to me about our economic bottleneck explosion. All the technology we see now has existed for quite some time, but the companies want their big bucks. Instead of putting it all out and creating more jobs, they held back and now we are in a recession all because the big guys wanted the money. Nowadays no one wants to help a neighbor either...
