On page 45 Postman mentions that today an average person would most likely not be able to withstand seven hours of someone talking without any distractions or picture taking but instead just sit and listen to someone speak about a certain topic. Audiences back then had an extraordinary attention span and great capacity to comprehend lengthy and complex sentences compared to today. I honestly believe that that is true because I know that I can barely get through one hour of lecturing without becoming distracted or bored.
Has it really come to the point that we have to rely on technology to give us answers or reasons to a certain question? Just think more schools are relying on technology to get things done for example this blog, do you think we could all go a year without technology and live the way our ancestors did ? Think about it.
we can go a year without using technology to give us answers but it would take a lot longer and it would be a lot harder. The reason why some people rely on technology to give the answer is because its fast and easy. We've adapted to the creation of technology, which is the reason that people can't live without a certain piece of it.
ReplyDeleteTechnology has grown on us, so we would ask it for answers. I believe that the Internet age is peaking. I truly think that education was the last bastion where the influence of the internet didn't reach. No, I don't believe that we could last without technology because we have grown so accustomed to it. Our brains crave constant stimulation. When we don't get that stimulation, we call it being "bored" and we despise it. I undoubtedly think people would give into temptation after a while.
ReplyDeleteTechnology is the new medium and we have become reliant on it. We could not go a whole year without it and live the way our ancestors did because it is already instilled in us. Our ancestors never had the option of television or the internet so they had to learn differently. We do that have that option, therefore; we are going to use it for as much as we can and going a year without that option would be too difficult for people.
