Is something missing?

In Amusing Ourselves to Death by Neil Postman I understand the point that he is trying to get across to the readers. In the first chapter he talks about topics like cultures and the media. Neil points out the clock for example, the clock has changed the world for everyone. We have schedules arranged to fit our specific time ranges. But what the clock has done is taken away our sense of moments. We check the time constantly throughout the day for what? Maybe to check what time the news will be on or to check if it is time to go to bed. Most do not go to bed at certain times because they feel like it but because they have to. We have lost the feel to most things in life. Everything has turned into something to look at whether it be the television or as stated before a clock. When you go outside you do not look at the sky and know what time it is, you have to check. Everything has been abbreviated to make things in life easier but because we take the easy road we fail to get the importance out things. Are we missing out on useful experiences and knowledge?

  1. How crazy is it to think we're living life based on time? But then again, a clock is a tool that keeps us sane. Yes, we seem to rush through events based on the time, but it is crazy to want to experience a moment forever. That just isn't possible. It's possible, however, to cherish a moment forever. Scheduling our lives helps us live more realistically. We don't live forever. We want to be able to live through as many experiences as we can. Many believe that spontaneity is the appropriate way of living, but I disagree. Life is based on time. There is a time for everything.
