Week of October 15

Monday:  Read the "Genre Studies: Book Review" blog post together; go over the Descriptive Outline assignment.  On Thursday, two copies of the same outline are due.  Then, SSR.

Tuesday:  Computer Lab --> Read book reviews; research your author and any previous work; collect Marian Lewes essay.  Reading Homework:  assign And The Firewalls Came Tumbling Down.

Wednesday:  Descriptive Outline of "And the Firewalls..." in 10 minutes or less;  talk through "Deciderization".  Assign vocabulary words from article.  Vocab quiz on Tuesday, October 23.  Handout:  Spectrum of Purposes.   Homework:  Study Spectrum of Purposes.  Begin vocab work.  Finish Descriptive Outline.

Thursday:  Create graphic organizer in the notebook; collect 1 copy of the Descriptive Outline; save second copy for tomorrow.  Genre talk:  reflective memoir.  Assign weekend essay:  Richard Rodriguez.  Debrief Marian Lewes -- top, middle, low.  Homework:  Read nonfiction; work on vocab; bring nonfiction book to class tomorrow with second copy of Descriptive Outline.

Friday:  Substitute Day.  First 25 minutes, SSR.  Second 30 minutes:  Descriptive Outline Table Readaround.  Work on graphic organizer (created in notebook on Thursday).  Based on your descriptive outline and those of your tablemates, consider the paragraphs that you may write for your book review.  Weekend homework:  Rodriguez essay.  Draft a book review.  Vocabulary from Deciderization.  Continue to read your nonfiction book.
