"The
Year of living Biblically" by A.J. Jacobs, is a very unique book than any
other book that i have read. This author according to the librarian writes
books that are centered on very unique ideas that dramatically interest readers
and fascinates them while reading. An example of a book that he wrote beside
the one mentioned above is “Know it all”, where he literally read the biggest
encyclopedia in the world and summarizes all of its content in that book.
The
main idea of the book is centered around following the rules of the Bible as
literally as possible. A guy named Jacob decides that he will list out all the
rules found in the Bible and will follow them as strictly and as literally as
possible for a whole year. Of course this tend to be a very challenging task
especially to this current generation of ours, where most of these rules have
been forgotten. This experiment of his, dramatically affects him and his family
as a whole including his wife and son. A man trying to follow the rules of the bible
in New York city makes this book really funny and interesting to read, due to
the different scenarios that he had to face in such a big city. The way this
book is organized is also different from many other memoirs or novels that i
have read. Since Jacobs is planning to follow these rules for a year he splits
the book into twelve different section with each dedicated to each month of the
year and during each month he goes day by day recounting the story of rule
obedience.
Also
unlike many other books this book interested me and made me more excited to
read from the first couple of pages, while for many other books, one has to
read about forty to fifty pages to start actually enjoying it. Overall it is a
really exciting book that i am glad to have checked out and i think that it
might even take its place among one of the best books that i have ever read, we
will find out?
