Runaway Girl
I am currently reading Runaway Girl by Carissa Phelps. Although I am not very far, reading wise, in this novel, Phelps has established what type of surroundings she grew up with. Her stepfather was fairly brutal to her and her siblings. She moved around multiple times, so she never truly had a close friend. Living in a house of more than three children will begin to get frustrating after a while. Carissa Phelps story is about escaping life on the streets, one helping hand at a time. When she was twelve she ran away from home and dropped out of school. She also found comfort in the arms of a brutal pimp. Phelps never thought she would escape abuse and running away. Through the kindness and help of strangers, Carissa found herself. She discovered comfort from counselors, teachers who showed her the way to get back on track. Carissa Phelps graduates from UCLA with a law degree and an MBA. Finding hope through her troubled life, she decided to help the homeless and children who are in the exact same struggle she was in. She describes other trials and losses she goes through as I continue to read her amazing story.
