One of a kind people are nonexistent in Ford's society. Mr. Savage became a circus act when he stepped out of the Reservation. He was paraded through Feelies and parties. He was the guest of honor at many dinners. However, his downfall was something all but legally outlawed in society. He fell in love with Lenina. She returned his advances in all ways but emotionally, for she was unable to grasp such a deep emotion due to her conditioning. With her physically advancing, I believe it drove John off the edge. He was so enraged with this society, where one could get no peace and quiet, where you drown out the bad with somas, and where intimacy meant nothing more than a night in bed. Even when he left London to be alone and try to find himself again, he was pestered by reporters and news anchors.
The question I would like to pose is this: Do you believe that John had the right solution to the problems tormenting him? Was there something he could have done other than end his life?
No! I DON't think there was any other option. You are absolutely right when you say that he did not belong in this time, in a matter of fact john was composed of the traditions of a much earlier time, he had the emotions of a Shakespearean character and the morals of a devote catholic man. John was a black blot in a white room, and this only created pain for him. He needed that escape from that world. He was never going to belong within the savage world, and he couldn't bear to be in the civilized world, and with all the cruelty of this Brave New World they wouldn't even let him be alone. John needed to die, he needed to leave that place of grief.
