Ford replaces the Christian God?

In chapter 3, it is made known that history is not taught to the people. It is specifically referred to as bunk. Well if all these people are left in the dark about the past, there is a lot that one person, more aware of the past, can do. It's evident that Ford is recognized as some type of a god/creator figure to these people. However, did they even know what a god was?

The tops of crosses (referring to the Christian faith) were cut off to make the "T" that symbolizes Ford. In doing so, it made me wonder if they meant to replace the Christian religion by making the T come directly from such an iconic symbol of the Christian religion. Huxley could very well have made it so that the T was  made from any object other than the cross, but it wasn't. The T purposefully came from the cross. So, was Ford a new god made for this new era or was he purposefully replacing the Christian God?

Ford must think very highly of himself to believe that he can replace such a god as the Christian god.

  1. In the book, it is apparent that Ford is this soceity's form of a deity. His name is used in place of "Lord" and "God". Ford is seen as the creator of industry and technology due to his motor company and T-Model industrial line, and since this "New World" is based off of factories and industry, it makes sense that the creator is worshipped. I believe that the citizens believe that God and Ford are one omnipotent being.

Also, since this book takes place many years after Ford's death, I don't think that Ford was aware that he would become a sort of deity to a whole civilization of people.
